Ruthie is a 1.5 year old, 40 lb Labrador Retriever/Cattle Dog mix. (Her breed mix is just a guess.) Ruthie has a sweet, calm temperament. Ruthie is shy at first, until she learns she can trust her people, so adopters will need to be patient and give her a little time to settle in. She loves hanging out in her dog bed on top of her foster mom's bed. This is her haven, a place that makes her feel safe and secure. She gets along with the other older dog in her foster home, and would do best in a home with another companion dog. Ruthie will not be a good choice as a playmate for another dog. She is more of a couch potato, hanging out and chillin' type of dog. Ruthie is super gentle, so she should be fine with kids, but she does tend to jump up when excited. She won't be the type of dog to play fetch, tug or wrestle with the kids though. Ruthie was malnourished when she came to us, but she is gaining weight and looking better each day. She is very treat motivated, and foster mom has taught her some commands using treat training. Foster mom says she is awesome on a leash, but she can be a little skittish of loud noises or other dogs. She does NOT like car rides, but she may overcome that with time....and treats! Ruthie does not like to be crated either, but she has excellent house manners, so there is no need to crate her. Ruthie will do best in a home where her people are home most of the time. Ruthie will be a loyal & affectionate companion for the right adopter. Ruthie has heartworms because she was not kept on monthly heartworm prevention. Humane Tomorrow will pay for her treatment with our vet, and the treatment is very successful.
